Words, words, words. What are they
but a convenient vehicle to send a message across?
That would argue the pragmatic.
But does that tell the whole story?
It would enquire the thinker.
Well-chosen words can lift you upwards,
and push you forward.
Or, in contrast, they can profoundly
mark your chest Zorro-like.
Coming out from the mouth,
prior to being properly thought about
they can eventually cause harm and damage
that several subsequent words
may have to struggle to fix.
Certain words may look like a feather
whilst others may resemble lead.
Empowering some words can be,
but crushing than a piledriver others may look like.
A final word I then leave you with.
From now on,
whatever word you might choose to use
bear in mind that through your head
it should better first go.
Because once released,
it’s no longer a mere vehicle
conveying the desired meaning
but it also tells a lot about you.
Some people say that what sets us apart from animals
Is the reasoning capacity.
“I think, therefore I am”
Says the famous quote known to many.
But whilst considering thinking as the sole
And ultimate human experience,
Overshadows something else that
Everyone should have the right to
But, sadly enough, to some is oftentimes neglected.
Likewise, a house doesn't stand still
Without solid foundations,
Humanity cannot be fully experienced
If dignity isn't granted, preserved or respected.
Some things in life are oftentimes
Taken for granted like the air we breathe.
But a closer look around
Unveils that far too many people
Are not experiencing their full human capacity.
Consequently, rather than crediting thinking
As the ultimate symbology of human existence,
I say that only dignity is capable of
Lifting anyone from sub humanity's dungeons
And leading towards the true
and full value of human life.
Real we know they are not,
but strangely enough,
quite frightening they may also become.
Some say that in the darkness they live,
whilst others claim that under daylight
they may also appear.
Shapeless as they usually are
from our fears they feed
what only assures us that it is
in our minds where they actually live
and nowhere else are they to be found.
Nonetheless, rationally speaking
clear this understanding is,
but when flooded by fear, uncertainty
anxiety or anguish our heart becomes,
we cannot forget that there is always
a helping hand that comes to our rescue.
Because with Him, alone we are not
and what seemed to be larger than in fact it is
under His light its due dimension it achieves.
For many, it may look quite trivial
and even not worth to be noticed
or maybe considered just
as a functional object,
an almost invisible component
of the urban landscape.
Temporary in fact it is,
but surprising and memorable
it may also become.
If covered, a temporary shelter
it may also provide us,
but if it's not,
a point of reference it adds.
Eventually, it may be removed
or relocated, but the stories
it witnesses stays permanent.
Likewise young lovers
who enjoy engraving
their names on tree trunks
expecting that they last
eternally, the memories
brought to us by the bus stop
carry similar sensation.
However, the engraving
does not cut any tree vein,
but flows within our blood stream
back and forth over time connecting
heart and mind in an endless cycle.
In the wake of a demanding life,
equilibrium is very sought after
and hardly achieved by many.
Precious as it is like,
nurturing is needed
especially due to the numerous gains It brings.
The simple image of having you afar
Shudders the balance you've brought to me.
life is not made solely
by the choices we make,
but of circumstances
that we have to deal with.
what today we may eventually,
don't fully comprehend or appreciate
the day will come
when the whole picture will become
more evident and the original balance
in full re-established.
